Tom Knight has spent several years making music in the classroom with students, and his experience makes this title a worthy purchase. Using a variety of musical styles, Knight invites listeners to interact, either vocally or through dance and movement, in almost every song on this recording. The lyrics are affirming, empowering, and kid-friendly. His multi-lingual "Peace in Twelve Languages" is not only educational, it's thought-provoking. The calypso heat of "Everybody Makes Mistakes" blends with its lighthearted words, reminding children that "sometimes it happens, you mess up what you do, and then accidentally, you create something new." Knight provides the vocals, occasionally accompanied by a chorus of children or female harmony. Of the 15 songs, most are curriculum related, including songs about an earthquake, water, and creating blues music. It’s been far too long since Tom Knight has released a children’s recording. He hasn’t lost his touch; The Library Boogie has all the whimsy and sensitivity of his former works, but he’s grown in sophistication and style. They all sound, to quote the title of one tune, 'Just Right.' Other songs include the title cut, in which books come out and dance all night: Children will enjoy hearing the names of favorite stories in this one. There are positive, reassuring tunes about divorce and stepfamilies, educational songs about the solar system and honeybees, and an exquisitely sweet fantasy called "Bally Roo." A high percentage of the numbers are top-notch. It’s never preachy but it offers both lullabies and sophisticated tunes like "Invisible Girl." On his fourth album, Tom Knight presents 13 original songs in an assortment of musical styles, including ragtime/boogie, swing, 60’s style rock, R&B, Western Swing, jazz, and folk-style lullabies. His deep, mellow voice is accompanied by a children’s chorus and a variety of beautifully played instruments such as acoustic guitar, fiddle, tambourine, dancing shoes, marimba, keyboard, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, cello, violin, and banjo. In the title song, all the library books dance the “Library Boogie” at night. Goldilocks and the Three Bears make an appearance in “Just Right.” Sally tames a mean, destructive dragon in “Sally and the Dragon.” “Two Moms” discusses different kinds of families. “Bally Roo” and “The Elephant’s Lullaby” are both lullabies. Easy as Pie is a lively introduction to a wide variety of musical styles for younger listeners and their families. Tom Knight gets help from his many “friends” including the Lowdown Alligator Jass Band and a wonderful kids chorus. He explores such abstract ideas as purple pumpkins in “Purple Pumpkin Pie,” and the old swimmin’ hole in “Jenning’s Pond”; and the trials of owning a dog in “Walkin’ the Dog.” His voice is clear and distinct and the lyrics are enjoyable. It is obvious that all involved enjoyed themselves while creating and producing this cassette. Great fun for young listeners individually. Easy as Pie would be a good purchase for public library children’s rooms. – School Library Journal

Tom Knight's first two albums, available on one double CD collection. A funny, sweet recording including folk, 50's style doo-wop, poems, playground clap games, and classically influenced lullabies. Even for the children who have not seen Knight perform, these songs quickly become familiar. The great strength of this tape is Knight’s knack for communicating with children. The lyrics cover a variety of subjects and seem to be of great interest to all the kids I tried them out on, from dinosaurs to caterpillars to garbage monsters and stone soup.There is a nice blend of story-telling, childhood fantasy and environmental concern. Knight’s voice is clear and rich. Almost every cut inspires singing along. It is a tribute to Knight’s charisma that children who have seen him in concert think that they are hearing their own voices on the album.
